Notes on Sensitive Skin ๐
We can experience times of sensitivity during periods of stress, pregnancy, menopause, long haul air travel and even after clinical facial treatments such as laser, microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Flare-ups can also often be sparked by misguided use of active or harsh skincare products.
If you start to notice a change in your skin texture or as the first sign of redness presents itself, swap out rich or overly active products with a gentle milk or oil cleanser followed by a calming, restorative serum and a simple, no-fuss moisturiser ( I like Chanelโs La Solution 10 Sensitive Skin Cream. It contains only 10 ingredients, sans alcohol or fragrance). Team this with a round of calming facial treatments and LED Light therapy which is wonderful during times of sensitivity as it alleviates inflammation and promotes healing and hydration.
1. Avoid harsh scrubs, AHAโs and retinoids whilst your skin restores itself.
2. Avoid products that contain alcohol, fragrance, ammonium lauryl sulphate and sodium laurel sulphate. These can be found in many skincare products including cleansers, moisturisers and serums so ensure that you read the label.
3. Avoid hot water and steam, opt for tepid water on the face, neck and dรฉcolletage.
4. If you live in a cold, dry climate protect your skin by wearing a thicker layer of moisturiser and reapply throughout the day.
5. Avoid excessive sun exposure. Apply a broad spectrum high SPF to protect sensitive skin from harsh UV.
