A facial works to improve the overall appearance of your skin while targeting specific skin ailments. These are generally bespoke and tailored to your skin type, and are always an important part of any skincare regime.
Facials are a wonderful way to thoroughly address particular concerns that crop up seasonally or during prolonged periods of stress, as well as a good way to provide additional support to skin and maintain skin health. Post-facial, expect smoother skin texture, brighter more refined skin, and an overall radiance with less congestion and breakouts. Ideally, I recommend a facial once per month (see my notes on DIY facials if you are unable to make time for an appointment this frequently).
To choose which facial is right for you, determine what your skin needs. Perhaps you’re struggling with congestion, or you have dry, irritated, sensitive skin. Your facialist will map out the best plan for you according to your skin type. I like to focus on the complete experience when I treat clients, combining both old-school skincare sensibility with clinical know-how to deliver the best results. Your facial may include components such as microdermabrasion, an antioxidant infusion or a peel, a face mask, massage, light therapy, laser or dermal boosters. Following facials, it's important not to:
- Pick at skin
- Wear heavy make-up
- Exercise directly following (I advise waiting at least 24 hours as the sweat can irritate your very fresh face)
- Use any active products (for at least 24 hours)
- Sunbake (though it’s always best to avoid doing this)
